Bremner Bay - a one minute walk from Clee Cottage
Wanaka is one of New Zealand's most beautiful retreats whatever
the season and offers just about every outdoor adventure imaginable
.
Set around a large lake with a backdrop of spectacular mountains
it is famous as a ski resort being well served by a choice of four
top class fields and a cross country ski farm - all within an hour's
drive. It also hums in summer as a boaters' paradise.
In autumn the colours must be seen to be believed.
Opportunities abound for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, golf,
parapenting and many other pursuits. For those wanting to kick back
there are fabulous cafes, restaurants, shops, and wine tasting.
A trip to Wanaka would not be complete without a visit to the world
famous maze/puzzle centre.

The township itself is well served by medical and other services
including regular public transport to places both within and outside
the Central Otago region.
Wanaka is an easy hour's drive from Queenstown, two to four hours
from the West Coast glaciers, three hours from Dunedin and five
hours from Christchurch. The nearest major airport is Queenstown
which is served by direct flights from Christchurch, Auckland and
Sydney.
There are also twice daily flights between Wanaka and Christchurch

In the words of the late Harry Kidson, the original owner of Clee
Cottage:
"Wanaka is a place where nature still overshadows us humans.
The gaunt hills and rock-strewn valleys seem not yet ready for us.
We come to realise that we are permitted guests..... "
(taken from "Wanaka and surrounding districts. A sequel to
Wanaka Story" - Irvine Roxburgh first published 1990)
